Preparing for the Arctic Blast-December 2022
There is no such thing as being over prepared for one of these things! The weather is….well what can I say….it’s the weather and it can knock your socks off if you aren’t ready!
Here’s the chore list:
Fill extra water containers and keep them inside where they can’t freeze.
Put out extra hay. Hay is the number one feed source for the cows. The old saying is…if you have to buy…buy hay!
I do feed extra range cubes….so they are loaded and ready to go!
Wrap pipes…
Turn off water to barns and drain lines.
Turn on heat lamps in pump house.
Open all covered resting areas for maximum protection from wind.
I’m sure I’ve forgotten something….!!!
And…????!!!!! It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! Merry Christmas to all!
(And, yes….I’m secretly hoping for some snow!)
Thankful!
There are so many things to be thankful for this year!

This little bull calf will be the last of Diesel’s offspring. He has both Butler and Wichita Reserve bloodlines. He is staring to get a little brindle streaking on his face.

This 16 month old bull calf is full Butler breeding from Frank Anderson’s ranch. He will take over as herd sire. He has a lovely top line and a sweet disposition! I’m looking forward to seeing his offspring next fall.

Finally, we are finally getting some much needed rain! The stock tanks are dangerously low and the pastures need some more deep soaking rains. It’s these rains that also help the wildflowers which are quietly staring to grow. More about that in my next post.
With everything that we have all been through these past few years I’m taking the time to thank God for his blessings each and every day! Thank you and may God’s blessings be with you each and every day!
Lovely Rain!!!

Extra Layers of Sunscreen…
Here’s Diesel the bull hanging out-not just under a big ole pecan tree-but also wrapped in lots of little scrub tree layers just for extra sun protection. That’s what you just gotta do in this hot Texas sun!

Hotter Than Hell on the 4th of July!
But that doesn’t stop these beautiful bluebells from being spectacular!!!!

It’s just a Texas ‘thang!!!!!
Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year!! Yes, these Indian Paintbrush are blooming along the road! They are usually the first sign of Spring but my calendar says January 1, 2022! What will the groundhog have to say about this?
I hope that you have a wonderful 2022. May God bless you and give you peace and strength throughout the year!
Enjoying the Shade
When it gets hot here in Texas the best place to be is under a nice shade tree.
