Happy New Year!! Yes, these Indian Paintbrush are blooming along the road! They are usually the first sign of Spring but my calendar says January 1, 2022! What will the groundhog have to say about this?
I hope that you have a wonderful 2022. May God bless you and give you peace and strength throughout the year!
As you have read in one of my previous posts…a part of taking care of your livestock includes managing predators that also want to enjoy your animals.
The coyotes have been getting closer and closer to the herd. I have several young calves and I am on HIGH alert.
Last night the coyotes were up around the farmhouse….like….close!!!! So close that I found scat in the pasture right next to the farmhouse:
One of the things that is important to learn is recognizing scat. Scat is the term for the droppings of animals. Understanding scat is an important tool in identifying an animal as well as understanding that animals health. At first sighting this morning I thought that this animal had been eating cockroaches….but after a closer look ….it has made me thing that those brown oval things are seeds.???
This afternoon Bunny, one of the rescue goats, decided to try to climb aboard with me as I was feeding. The goats are excellent foragers on the Johnson grass that has started to invade the fields. But today he decided to try and hitch a ride with me and direct my efforts as I was throwing range cubes out for the cows. He is a very good manager! And a very lovable one at that!!!
This has been a beautiful spring afternoon! The temperature has been so pleasant at around 63 degrees F and the sun is peeking out from the clouds. I pray that you are enjoying a wonderful day!
